# Read the latest version

> The configuration at its newest version. Asking for a version by number is a different address, on purpose.

The configuration as it newest stands. Reading the latest and reading one version are separate addresses deliberately: `?version=2` on this route is refused, so a caller asking for a version is never handed whatever the newest happens to be — [one version by number](/api-reference/product-configurations/read-version) has its own route.

## Path parameters

<ParamField path="tenant_id" type="string" required>
  The Tenancy asking.
</ParamField>

<ParamField path="id" type="string" required>
  The configuration. Another Tenancy's and one that never existed are both `404`.
</ParamField>

## Response

The stored configuration, whole: `id`, `tenant_id`, `archetype`, `version`, `created_at`, `values`, and `effective` beside them — the shape [creation](/api-reference/product-configurations/create#response) answers, without `advisories`, which only a write carries.

<RequestExample>
  ```bash Read theme={null}
  curl "https://api.capcells.com/v1/tenants/$TENANT_ID/product-configurations/inst-000001" \
    -H "Authorization: $(capcells_sign "$CAPCELLS_API_KEY" GET "/v1/tenants/$TENANT_ID/product-configurations/inst-000001")"
  ```
</RequestExample>

<ResponseExample>
  ```json 200 theme={null}
  {
    "id": "inst-000001",
    "tenant_id": "t-0001",
    "archetype": "instalment",
    "created_at": "2026-08-18T22:26:41.407349Z",
    "version": 2,
    "values": { … }
  }
  ```

  ```json 400 A version parameter theme={null}
  {
    "error": "reading the request: this route does not read the parameter \"version\"",
    "code": "invalid_query"
  }
  ```
</ResponseExample>
